WHO ARE THE ELDERS?

In the first two sermons in this series we studied about the  mission of Jesus on Earth.  The title of that presentation was “Mission Accomplished”.  And then in our study, our last study, we dealt with the  ascension of Jesus Christ to the holy place in heaven.  And the title of that presentation was  “The Return of the War Hero”.

Now during the next three studies together we are going to deal with a specific topic.  We're going to deal with the specific group that was present  there when Jesus arrived; a group that is called  in scripture the “twenty-four elders”.

Dalam dua pelajaran pertama dari seri ini, kita belajar mengenai misi Yesus di dunia. Judul pelajaran itu adalah “Mission Accomplished” (Tugas Terlaksana). Kemudian dalam pelajaran kita yang terakhir, kita membahas kenaikan Yesus Kristus ke tempat Mahasuci di Surga. Dan judul pelajaran itu adalah “The Return of the War Hero” (Kembalinya Sang Pahlawan Perang).

Sekarang dalam tiga pelajaran berikutnya kita akan membahas satu topik khusus. Kita akan membahas satu kelompok khusus yang hadir di sana ketika Yesus tiba; satu kelompok yang di Alkitab disebut “ke-24 tua-tua”.

Now I need to make something very clear as we begin our study. And that is that you need to be here for all three  studies, because we're going to have a lot of loose ends until  at the very end we tie all of these loose ends together.  And then everything will make sense.  If you come just to the presentation today,  you're going to have part of the picture.  But if you come to all three, you're going to have the full  picture, and I can guarantee that you're going to understand  this topic very, very well.

Nah, saat kita mengawali pelajaran kita ini, saya mau menjelaskan sesuatu, yaitu kalian harus hadir di tiga pelajaran itu karena akan ada banyak hal yang tidak tuntas hingga akhirnya semuanya akan dituntaskan bersama-sama, maka semuanya akan menjadi masuk akal. Jika kalian hanya datang ke presentasi hari ini, kalian hanya akan memiliki sebagian dari gambarnya. Tetapi jika kalian datang ke  semua tiga pelajaran itu, kalian akan mendapatkan gambaran yang seutuhnya dan saya jamin kalian akan memahami topik ini dengan sangat baik. 

Now in our last study we noticed that when Jesus ascended to heaven the heavenly throne room had been prepared before His arrival.  We saw that God the Father was sitting on His throne.  Also in the midst of the throne were four living creatures  representing the seraphim and the cherubim.  Surrounding the throne we noticed that there was a group  called the twenty-four elders.  And before the throne were the seven spirits representing  the fullness of the Holy Spirit.  Then later in chapter 5, when Jesus arrives,  then you have Jesus in the scene, and you also have the  angelic hosts who had gone to Earth to pick up Jesus to take Him to heaven.

Dalam pelajaran kita yang lalu kita sudah menyimak bahwa ketika Yesus naik ke Surga, ruang takhta di Surga sedang dipersiapkan untuk kedatanganNya. Kita melihat bahwa Allah Bapa sedang duduk di takhtaNya. Juga di tengah-tengah takhta ada empat makhluk hidup yang melambangkan serafim dan kerubim. Di seputar takhta kita melihat ada suatu kelompok yang disebut ke-24 tua-tua. Dan di hadapan takhta ada tujuh Roh yang melambangkan Roh Kudus sepenuhnya. Kemudian di pasal 5 ketika Yesus tiba, kita melihat kehadiran Yesus, dan juga bala tentara malaikat yang telah pergi ke dunia untuk menjemput Yesus dan membawaNya ke Surga.

Now the specific group that we want to study about is that  group called the twenty-four elders.  Now the traditional view that is held, especially in the Seventh-day Adventist Church,  in almost every single publication that I have read,  is that the twenty-four elders represent those that resurrected  with Jesus, that Jesus took to heaven upon His ascension,  and He presented to His Father as the first fruits of the great  harvest that will take place at the second coming of those  who died in Christ.  In other words, they were a little sample,  or a small guarantee, that the rest of those who died in Christ  would resurrect when Jesus would return in power and glory. 

Now we need to ask the question, does this interpretation square with what is taught in Scripture, as well as in the  Spirit of Prophecy, because our authority is number one  Scripture, and then we go to the Spirit of Prophecy to see if the Spirit of Prophecy squares with what is taught in Scripture.  And we're going to find that both of these sources are in perfect harmony.

Sekarang, kelompok yang akan kita pelajari adalah kelompok yang disebut ke-24 tua-tua. Sekarang kita perlu bertanya, apakah interpretasi ini cocok dengan apa yang diajarkan Firman Tuhan dan juga Roh Nubuat, karena panduan kita pertama adalah  Firman Tuhan kemudian kita ke Roh Nubuat untuk melihat apakah Roh Nubuat cocok dengan apa yang diajarkan Firman Tuhan. Dan kita akan melihat bahwa kedua sumber ini cocok dengan sempurna.

Now let's go in our Bibles as we begin our study, to Job 38, and let's read verses 4 through 7. Job 38:4-7.  Here God is asking Job a series of questions, and it says this: “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. ⁵ Who determined its measurements? Surely you know!...” God says, somewhat sarcastically. “…Or who stretched the line upon it? ⁶  To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone…” So what event is being described in these verses?  There's no doubt that its referring to the creation story  in Genesis chapter 1, and Genesis chapter 2.  But now notice what happened at creation. It says at the last part of this passage “…⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”  Interesting! We're told that at creation, when this world  was created, the morning stars sang together, and all the sons  of God shouted for joy.  This is taking place at creation week.  In other words, these beings were present when God created this world, which means that they existed before the creation of this world. They pre-existed creation in other words. 

Nah, marilah membuka Alkitab kita pada awal pelajaran ini ke Ayub 38, dan mari kita baca ayat 4 hingga 7. Ayub 38:4-7. Di sini Tuhan mengajukan kepada Ayub serangkaian pertanyaan, demikian, “Di manakah engkau, ketika Aku meletakkan dasar bumi? Ceritakanlah, kalau engkau mempunyai pengertian! ⁵ Siapakah yang telah menetapkan ukurannya? Bukankah engkau mengetahuinya?…”  kata Tuhan sedikit sarkastis, “…Atau siapakah yang telah merentangkan tali pengukur padanya?  ⁶Fondasinya diikatkan pada apa? Atau siapakah yang memasang batu penjurunya?…”  Jadi peristiwa apa yang digambarkan di ayat-ayat ini? Tidak diragukan ini mengacu kepada kisah penciptaan di Kejadian pasal 1 dan pasal 2. Tetapi sekarang perhatikan apa yang terjadi saat penciptaan. Dikatakan di bagian akhir dari bacaan ini,   “…⁷ Pada waktu bintang-bintang fajar menyanyi bersama-sama, dan semua anak Allah bersorak-sorai gembira?” Menarik. Kita diberitahu bahwa pada saat penciptaan, saat dunia ini diciptakan, bintang-bintang fajar menyanyi bersama-sama, dan semua anak Tuhan bersorak-sorai. Ini terjadi dalam minggu penciptaan. Dengan kata lain, makhluk-makhluk ini hadir ketika Tuhan menciptakan dunia ini, yang berarti mereka sudah ada sebelum dunia ini diciptakan. Dengan kata lain mereka mendahului  penciptaan.

Now we need to understand that here the expression, “morning stars”, and the expression, “sons of God”  are really synonymous.  These are not two different groups.  They are the same group described in two different ways. In Hebrew poetry you know, you have what is called synonymous parallelism, where what is said in the first line is repeated in the second line, but in different words, the same thought.  So when we're told here that the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy, the morning stars, and the sons of God, are the same group,  but they're described in different language  or different terms.

Nah, kita perlu memahami di sini ungkapan “bintang-bintang fajar” dan ungkapan “anak-anak Allah” itu sinonim. Ini bukan dua kelompok berbeda, mereka adalah kolompok yang sama yang digambarkan dengan dua cara berbeda. Dalam puisi Ibrani, kalian tahu, ada yang disebut paralelisme sinonim, di mana apa yang dikatakan di baris pertama, diulangi lagi di baris kedua tetapi dengan kata-kata yang berbeda, tapi maknanya sama. Now lets talk a little bit about the identity of the morning stars and the sons of God. When we look at scripture there's no doubt whatsoever that stars represent angels.  This is very, very clear, for example, in Revelation chapter 12, and verse 3, where we're told that the dragon drew a third of the stars  of heaven with his tail.  And then a little bit later, in verse 9, we're told that the  devil was cast out of heaven with his angels.  In other words, the stars that he drew with his tail represent  the angels that decided to follow him in his rebellion.  In other words, the morning stars represent angels.

Marilah berbicara sedikit tentang identitas bintang-bintang fajar dan anak-anak Allah. Jika kita melihat di Firman Tuhan, tidak diragukan sama sekali bahwa bintang-bintang mewakili malaikat-malaikat. Ini amat sangat jelas, misalnya di Wahyu 12:3 di mana kita diberitahu bahwa naga itu menyeret sepertiga bintang-bintang di Surga dengan ekornya. Lalu kemudian di ayat 9 kita diberitahu bahwa Iblis dibuang keluar dari Surga bersama malaikat-malaikatnya. Dengan kata lain, bintang-bintang yang diseret dengan ekornya mewakili para malaikat yang memutuskan untuk mengikuti pemberontakannya. Dengan kata lain, bintang-bintang fajar mewakili malaikat-malaikat.

Now it's interesting to notice that Ellen White explains  that the sons of God are angels.  So what we're seeing is that the Bible defines the morning stars as angels. Ellen White describes the sons of God as angels.  That's why I'm saying that really its the same group,  but with two different names.  Notice The Great Controversy, page 519, where Ellen White  describes what happened in Job 1 and 2.  Do you remember that the sons of God came to present themselves  before the Lord? Notice how she describes this.  “The Scriptures declare  that upon one occasion, when  the angels of God came to present themselves before  the Lord, Satan came also among them (Job 1:6)…” Now interesting. In the book of Job it says that the sons  of God came to present themselves before the Lord.  Ellen White here says that ”… the angels of God came to present themselves before  the Lord, Satan came also among them, not to bow before the Eternal King, but to further his own malicious designs against the righteous. With the same object he is in attendance when men assemble for the worship of God.” 

So we find that Ellen White identifies the sons of God  as angels, and Scripture speaks of the stars as angels. 

Nah, yang menarik, perhatikan penjelasan Ellen White bahwa anak-anak Allah adalah malaikat. Jadi apa yang kita lihat adalah Alkitab mendefinisikan bintang-bintang fajar sebagai malaikat, Ellen White mendeskripsi anak-anak Allah sebagai malaikat. Itulah mengapa saya berkata bahwa ini adalah kelompok yang sama dengan dua nama yang berbeda. Dengan tujuan yang sama, dia (=Setan) juga hadir ketika manusia berkumpul untuk menyembah Tuhan.”

Jadi, kita lihat bahwa Ellen White mengidentifikasi anak-anak Allah sebagai malaikat, dan Firman Tuhan berbicara tentang bintang-bintang sebagai malaikat.

Now we're going to go in a few moments to Job 1 and 2  where this same expression, “sons of God”, is used. 

But before we do, I need to give you a word of explanation.  A question that always comes up when I've dealt with the issue  of the twenty-four elders is concerning Genesis chapter 6, where it says that “the sons of God saw that the daughters  of men were beautiful”.  And so scholars say the sons of God are angels.  And so what this means is that before the flood the angels, called the sons of God, had sexual relations with human women, with the daughters of men, and this relationship produced the giants, or a hybrid that was  part human and part angel.  And, of course, they say, you know, if the sons of God in Job are angels, well, the same expression should mean the same thing in Genesis chapter 6. And that sounds very logical.  However, terms and expressions need to be understood within  the context that they are used. The expression does not always mean the same thing. It can mean different things in different contexts.  Let me give you an example.

Jadi yang dimaksudkan di sini adalah sebelum air bah, malaikat-malaikat yang disebut anak-anak Allah, berhubungan seksual dengan perempuan-perempuan manusia, dengan anak-anak perempuan manusia, dan dari hubungan ini lahirlah raksasa-raksasa, atau spesies campuran yang setengah manusia setengah malaikat. Dan tentu saja mereka berkata, “Jika anak-anak Allah di Ayub adalah malaikat maka ungkapan yang sama di Kejadian pasal 6 pasti berarti hal yang sama.” Dan ini kedengarannya cukup logis. Namun, istilah dan ungkapan harus dipahami di dalam konteks di mana itu dipakai. Ungkapan itu tidak selalu berarti hal yang sama. Bisa berarti hal yang berbeda dalam konteks yang berbeda.

Saya akan memberikan contoh.

What does a lion represent in Scripture? If I asked you that question, I believe that I would have several answers.

Can a lion represent Jesus Christ? Absolutely! He's the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

Can a lion represent the devil?  He goes forth as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

Can a lion represent the kingdom of Babylon? Absolutely! In Daniel chapter 7.

Can a lion represent Judah, the son of Jacob?  Absolutely!

And so lion doesn't mean the same thing in every context. You have to respect the context.

Then you also have leaven.

When I ask, what does leaven, or yeast represent?

The people say, “Oh, it represents sin.”

And that's true, but it doesn't always represent sin, because in the parable that Jesus gave of the leaven, Jesus speaks of putting the leaven in the dough, and it makes the dough grow. Now what is Jesus saying? He's saying that when the Holy Spirit is in the church represented by the loaf, the church grows just like the lump of dough grows. And so the leaven can represent also the Holy Spirit.

Dalam Firman Tuhan, singa itu melambangkan apa? Jika saya menanyakan ini, saya yakin saya akan mendapat beberapa jawaban.

Bisakah singa melambangkan Yesus Kristus? Tentu saja. Dialah Singa dari suku Yehuda.

Bisakah singa melambangkan Iblis? Dia keluar seperti singa mengaum yang mencari mangsa yang bisa dibinasakannya.

Bisakah singa melambangkan kerajaan Babilon? Tentu saja, di Daniel pasal 7.

Bisakah singa melambangkan Yehuda, anak Yakub? Tentu saja!

Jadi singa tidak berarti hal yang sama dalam setiap konteks. Kita harus mengikuti konteksnya.

Lalu ada ragi.

Bila saya tanya, ragi itu melambangkan apa?

Orang berkata, “Oh, itu melambangkan dosa.”

Dan itu benar, tetapi ragi tidak selalu melambangkan dosa, karena dalam perumpamaan yang diberikan Yesus tentang ragi, Yesus berbicara tentang meletakkan ragi di dalam adonan, dan itu membuat adonannya mengembang. Nah, apa yang dikatakan Yesus? Dia berkata bahwa bila Roh Kudus ada di dalam gereja yang dilambangkan oleh adonan itu, maka gereja akan bertumbuh sama seperti sebuah adonan bertumbuh. Maka ragi juga bisa  mewakili Roh Kudus.

And so let's not jump to conclusions that just because sons of God is used in Job, and it refers to angels,  that it has the same meaning in Genesis chapter 6. Actually, if you look at the context of Genesis chapter 6, you're going to find that the sons of God has a different meaning. Immediately before Genesis chapter 6, you have in chapter 4 the wicked descendants of Cain. And there are three evil women in his genealogy. Those would be the daughters of men.

In chapter 5 you have the descendants of Seth. That is the lineage of the righteous.  And then in the very next verse, Genesis 6 verse 1, as well as verse 2, it speaks about the sons of God and the daughters of men. The context indicates that the sons of God are the righteous descendants of Seth, whereas the daughters of men are the wicked women mentioned in the genealogy of Cain. So the context must dictate the meaning.

Maka jangan tergesa-gesa menarik kesimpulan bahwa hanya karena kata-kata “anak-anak Allah” dipakai di kitab Ayub mewakili malaikat-malaikat, bahwa di Kejadian pasal 6 maknanya sama. Sebenarnya jika kita melihat ke konteks Kejadian pasal 6 kita akan melihat bahwa “anak-anak Allah” memiliki pengertian yang berbeda. Segera sebelum Kejadian pasal 6, di pasal 4 kita temui keturunan yang jahat dari Kain. Dan ada tiga perempuan jahat dalam silsilahnya. Mereka inilah “anak-anak perempuan manusia”.

Di pasal 5 kita bertemu dengan keturunan Set. Ini adalah garis keturunan orang yang benar. Dan kemudian dalam ayat berikutnya, Kejadian 6:1 dan 2, dikatakan tentang “anak-anak Allah” dan “anak-anak perempuan manusia” Konteksnya mengindikasikan bahwa “anak-anak Allah” adalah keturunan Set yang benar, sedangkan “anak-anak perempuan manusia” adalah wanita-wanita jahat yang disebutkan dalam silsilah Kain. Jadi konteksnya yang menentukan artinya.

Incidentally, in Scripture Adam is called the son of God,  in Luke 3. And we know that Adam was not an angel, right? And yet he's called the son of God.

So we see that “son of God”, or “sons of God”, has different meanings in different contexts.  Do you know that the apostle Paul refers to the righteous as sons of God? Notice Romans 8 and verse 14. Romans 8:14. Here the apostle Paul says: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

So I suppose that every believer is an angel?  Of course not! The expression, “son of God”  represents the righteous; those who have accepted Jesus Christ; those who are led by the Spirit just like the descendants of Seth. Are you with me?

Kebetulan di dalam Firman Tuhan, Adam disebut anak Allah, di Lukas 3. Dan kita tahu bahwa Adam bukanlah malaikat, benar? Namun dia disebut “anak Allah”.

Jadi kita lihat bahwa “anak Allah” atau “anak-anak Allah” memiliki makna yang berbeda dalam konteks yang berbeda. Apakah kalian tahu bahwa rasul Paulus menyebut orang-orang benar sebagai anak-anak Allah? Perhatikan Roma 8:14. Di sini rasul Paulus berkata, “Karena seberapa banyak yang dipimpin Roh Allah, mereka ini adalah anak Allah.”

Kalau begitu setiap orang percaya itu malaikat? Tentu saja bukan! Ungkapan “anak Allah” di sini mewakili orang-orang yang benar; mereka yang telah menerima Yesus Kristus; mereka yang dipimpin oleh Roh Kudus sama seperti keturunan Set. Apakah kalian bisa mengikuti saya? 

So I needed to clear this up, even though we're digressing from the central theme that we're studying, because I know that if I don't touch upon it, we're going to receive lots  of phone calls, and we're going to receive lots of e-mails saying, “Yeah, but what about Genesis chapter 6?” So I decided that I would clarify this.

Jadi saya perlu menjernihkan ini, walaupun kita sudah menyimpang dari tema inti yang kita pelajari, karena saya tahu jika saya tidak menyinggungnya, kami akan menerima banyak sekali telepon dan kami akan menerima banyak sekali email yang berkata, “Ya, bagaimana dengan Kejadian pasal 6?” Jadi saya putuskan untuk menjernihkan ini.

Now let's go to two other places in Job where the expression “sons of God” is used. Go with me to Job 1:6-7. Remember we already looked at Job 38:4-7, where it speaks about creation, and it tells us that the sons of God, the morning stars sang when God created this world, which means that they existed before creation. And they actually witnessed creation.

Job 1:6-7 “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. ⁷ And the LORD said to Satan, ‘From where do you come?’ So Satan answered the LORD and said, ‘From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.’"

Now there are several things that I want us to notice about these two verses in Job 1, verses 6 and 7.

·       First of all, the sons of God do not always dwell in the presence of God, because we're told in this passage that a certain day they came to present themselves before the Lord. In other words, they don't dwell where the Lord is. They're invited to come on certain days to be present before the Lord.

·       Another thing that I want us to notice is that Satan felt that he had a perfect right to belong to that group, because Satan comes not with them, but he comes among  the sons of God. So he's saying, “I have a perfect right to belong to this group.” Satan came among these sons of God, a certain day from somewhere, because they came; they were not there.

·       Another thing that we notice here is that when God asks Satan where he came from, Satan answered, “I have come from the Earth.” Now the Earth is a planet, right? The Devil is saying, “I have come among the sons of God, and my planet, that I represent, is planet Earth.”

·       Would it be too much of an exaggeration to believe that the other sons of God represented other worlds in the universe of God? If Satan comes to that meeting representing a planet, what would make us think that the other sons of God are not  coming also representing what?  Representing the planets that they came from.

Sekarang marilah kita ke kedua ayat di Ayub di mana ungkapan “anak-anak Allah” dipakai. Marilah bersama saya ke Ayub 1:6-7. Ingat, kita sudah membaca Ayub 38:4-7 di mana dibicarakan tentang penciptaan, dan dikatakan bahwa anak-anak Allah, bintang-bintang fajar menyanyi ketika Tuhan menciptakan dunia ini, artinya mereka sudah ada sebelum penciptaan. Mereka justru yang menyaksikan penciptaan.

Ayub 1:6-7 “Pada suatu hari datanglah anak-anak Allah menghadap TUHAN dan di antara mereka datanglah juga Setan. ⁷ Maka bertanyalah TUHAN kepada Setan: ‘Dari mana engkau?’ Lalu jawab Setan kepada TUHAN: ‘Dari perjalanan mengelilingi dan menjelajah bumi."

Nah ada beberapa hal yang saya mau kita perhatikan mengenai dua yat ini di Ayub 1:6-7:

·       Pertama, anak-anak Allah yang disebutkan itu tidak selalu berada di hadirat Tuhan, karena dalam bacaan ini kita diberitahu bahwa pada suatu hari mereka datang menghadap Tuhan. Dengan kata lain, mereka tidak tinggal bersama Tuhan. Mereka diundang datang pada hari-hari tertentu untuk menghadap Tuhan.

·       Hal yang lain yang saya mau kita perhatikan adalah, Setan merasa bahwa dia punya hak untuk termasuk dalam kelompok itu, karena Setan tidak datang bersama-sama dengan mereka, tetapi dia datang di antara anak-anak Allah. Jadi Setan berkata, “Saya berhak termasuk kelompok ini.” Setan datang di antara anak-anak Allah, pada suatu hari tertentu, dari suatu tempat; karena mereka datang, jadi mereka tidak tinggal di sana.

·       Hal yang lain yang kita lihat adalah ketika Tuhan bertanya kepada Setan dari mana dia, Setan menjawab, “Aku datang dari bumi.” Nah, bumi adalah sebuah planet, bukan? Iblis sedang berkata, “Aku datang di antara anak-anak Allah, dan planetku yang aku wakili adalah planet bumi.”

·       Apakah terlalu jauh menyimpang untuk meyakini bahwa anak-anak Allah yang lain mewakili dunia-dunia lain dalam alam semesta Tuhan? Jika Setan datang ke pertemuan itu mewakili sebuah planet, apa yang akan membuat kita berpikir bahwa anak-anak Allah yang lain juga tidak datang mewakili apa? Mewakili planet-planet dari mana mereka datang?

Now let's go to Job, chapter 2 and verses 1 and 2. This will get clearer and clearer as we go along. You know, we're just introducing this subject, but we're going to study some amazing things in our study today as well as in the next two periods that we're going to spend together. Job 2 verses 1 and 2. This is a second meeting that takes place in heaven where the sons of God are invited to come. Notice what it says in Job 2 verse 1. “Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD…” Also among them to present himself came whom? Satan. And now notice: “…² And the LORD said to Satan, ‘From where do you come?’ Satan answered the LORD and said, ‘From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.’"

Now let's take a look at this. Do the same principles apply to this second meeting  as to the first meeting? Absolutely! Did the sons of God leave and go back to where they came from after the first meeting? Of course! They must have, because it says that again they  came. Which means that if again they came, they must have left after the first meeting. Are you with me or not? To wherever they came from. Satan came from where? He came

from planet Earth. And after the meeting where does he go? He returns to planet Earth to afflict Job with boils  from the tip of his head, to the bottom of his feet. So, in other words, these sons of God, they come to present themselves before the Lord. After the meeting takes place they return to where they came from. They do not permanently live in the presence of God. They come from planets, if you please.

Sekarang mari ke Ayub 2:1-2. Sambil jalan, ini akan menjadi semakin jelas. Kalian tahu, kita baru diperkenalkan kepada subjeknya, tetapi dalam pelajaran kita hari ini kita akan mempelajari beberapa hal yang mengagumkan, begitu juga dalam dua kali pelajaran yang akan kita lewatkan bersama. Ayub 2:1-2. Ini adalah pertemuan kedua yang terjadi di Surga di mana anak-anak Allah diundang datang. Perhatikan apa yang dikatakan Ayub 2:1, “Kembali pada hari yang lain datanglah anak-anak Allah menghadap TUHAN dan di antara mereka datang juga Setan untuk menghadap TUHAN…”  Di antara mereka menghadap juga siapa? Setan. Sekarang perhatikan,    “… ² Maka bertanyalah TUHAN kepada Setan: ‘Dari mana engkau?’ Lalu jawab Setan kepada TUHAN: ‘Dari perjalanan mengelilingi dan menjelajah bumi.’”

Sekarang, mari kita simak. Apakah prinsip yang sama berlaku pada pertemuan kedua ini sebagaimana pada pertemuan yang pertama? Tentu saja! Apakah setelah pertemuan yang pertama anak-anak Allah itu pergi  dan kembali ke tempat masing-masing dari mana mereka datang? Tentu saja. Mereka pasti pergi karena dikatakan bahwa mereka datang kembali. Artinya jika mereka kembali lagi, mereka tentunya telah pulang setelah pertemuan yang pertama. Apakah kalian mengikuti saya atau tidak? Mereka pulang ke mana mereka berasal. Setan datang dari mana? Dia datang dari planet bumi. Dan setelah pertemuan itu ke mana dia pergi? Dia kembali ke planet bumi untuk menyiksa Ayub dengan borok dari ujung kepalanya hingga ke telapak kakinya. Jadi, dengan kata lain, anak-anak Allah itu, mereka datang menghadap ke hadirat Tuhan. Setelah pertemuan terjadi, mereka pulang ke tempat asal mereka. Mereka tidak tinggal secara permanen di hadirat Tuhan. Mereka datang dari planet-planet, begitulah.

Now do you know, that God operates the universe in a democratic fashion? God has a representative style of government, where representatives from the different worlds in the universe come together to deliberate, and come together to make decisions concerning the administration, and the operation of the universe.

Let me give you another example from Scripture. Go with me to 2 Chronicles, chapter 18 and verses 18 to 22. This is a powerful passage.

You remember that in the days of king Ahab, Ahab had a meeting  with Jehoshaphat. Ahab was the king of the ten tribes of the north, and Jehoshaphat was a king of the two tribes of the south, known as Judah. And they had this family reunion in the city of Samaria. And Jehoshaphat was a good king, and Ahab was a bad king. 

And so Ahab says to Jehoshaphat, “You know, now that you're here,  don't you think it would be a good idea for us to go and fight  against our common enemy, the Syrians?”

And Jehoshaphat says, “You know that might be a good idea.  Don't you think we should consult the Lord? Do you have any prophets around?” 

And Ahab says, “Oh prophets, I've got prophets galore.”

And so he calls 400 prophets that he had. And he says to his 400 prophets, “Now Jehoshaphat and I want to go fight against the Syrians, our common enemy. Do you think that's a good idea?” 

And, of course, the 400 prophets, they were false prophets, say, “Oh, yes, king. Go to battle and you're going to gain a great victory.” 

But Jehoshaphat wasn't too convinced. And so he says, “Now ah, Ahab, don't you have a prophet of the Lord around?”

And the king, king Ahab says, “Yeah, I've got him, but he's in the dungeon. And because every time I ask him to prophesy he prophesies evil, and so I've thrown him into the dungeon.”

And Jehoshaphat says, “That's God's prophet! That's where God's prophets live. They live in prison, and they're hated, and so bring him.”

And so Micaiah comes before Ahab.

And Ahab says, “Should we go to battle against the Syrians?”

And I want you to notice what Micaiah answers; the name of the prophet. It says there in 2 Chronicles 18, verses 18 to 22: “Then Micaiah said, ‘Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and His left…” Hmm, interesting, by the way, who is the host of heaven? All of the angelic host, right? “…¹⁹ And the LORD said, 'Who will persuade Ahab king of Israel to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?'…” In other words, who's going to convince Ahab to go to battle so that he gets killed? Now listen to what happens. “…So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner…” You know, everybody had their suggestion in the heavenly council. And now notice what happens, verse 20. “…²⁰ Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will persuade him.'…” This is a meeting happening in heaven, but it has to do with earthly events.  “…'I will persuade him.' The LORD said to him, 'In what way?' ²¹ So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.'” And the LORD said, 'You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.' ²² Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.’"

Do you think that was a good angel, a loyal angel that says, “I'll go out and I'll lie so that Ahab goes to battle and gets killed”? Absolutely not! God does not use lying to accomplish His purposes. Who was this being that was there in the heavenly council that says, “I'll go and I'll deceive him to go to battle so that he gets killed”? Who do you think that lying spirit was? It was Satan! The same one that went there in Job chapter 1, to the heavenly council.

And you're saying, “What was he doing there?”

We'll come to that.

Nah, tahukah kalian Tuhan mengoperasikan alam semesta secara demokratis? Tuhan memiliki suatu bentuk pemerintahan di mana para wakil dari dunia-dunia yang berbeda di alam semesta, datang berkumpul untuk mempertimbangkan, dan berkumpul untuk membuat keputusan mengenai administrasi dan operasi alam semesta.

Saya akan memberikan suatu contoh dari Firman Tuhan. Mari bersama saya ke 2 Tawarikh 18:18-22. Ini adalah bacaan yang sangat berbobot.

Kalian ingat di zaman raja Ahab, Ahab bertemu dengan Yosafat. Ahab adalah raja dari 10 suku di sebelah utara, dan Yosafat adalah raja dari 2 suku di selatan yang dikenal sebagai Yehuda. Dan mereka mengadakan reuni keluarga di kota Samaria. Yosafat adalah raja yang baik, sedangkan Ahab raja yang jahat.

Maka Ahab berkata kepada Yosafat, “Kamu tahu, mumpung kamu di sini, apakah bukan ide bagus jika kita pergi berperang melawan musuh kita bersama, bangsa Siria?”

Dan Yosafat berkata, “Kayaknya itu ide yang bagus. Apakah sebaiknya kita tidak bertanya dulu kepada Tuhan? Apakah kamu memiliki nabi-nabi di sini?”

Dan Ahab berkata, “Oh, nabi, aku punya nabi sebanyak-banyaknya.” Maka dia pun memanggil 400 nabinya. Dan dia berkata kepada ke-400 nabi ini, “Nah, Yosafat dan aku mau pergi berperang melawan bangsa Siria, musuh bersama kita. Menurut kalian apakah itu ide yang bagus?”

Dan tentu saja ke-400 nabi itu ~ mereka adalah nabi-nabi palsu ~ berkata, “Oh, ya, Baginda. Pergilah berperang dan Baginda akan memperoleh kemenangan besar.”

Tetapi Yosafat tidak terlalu yakin. Maka dia berkata, “Nah, eh, Ahab, apa kamu tidak punya seorang nabi Tuhan di sini?”

Dan si raja, raja Ahab berkata, “Yah, punya, tetapi dia ada di dalam penjara bawah tanah. Dan karena setiap kali aku minta dia bernubuat, dia menubuatkan yang jahat, maka aku telah melemparkannya ke penjara bawah tanah.”

Yosafat berkata, “Itu baru nabi Tuhan! Di sanalah hidup nabi Tuhan, mereka hidup di penjara, mereka dibenci, jadi bawalah dia kemari.”

Maka Mikha pun datang menghadap Ahab.

Dan Ahab berkata, “Baikkah jika kita pergi berperang melawan bangsa Siria?”

Dan saya mau kalian memperhatikan jawaban Mikha ~ nama nabi itu ~ dikatakan di sana di 2 Tawarikh 18:18-22,  “Kata Mikha: ‘Sebab itu dengarkanlah firman TUHAN. Aku telah melihat TUHAN sedang duduk di atas takhta-Nya dan segenap tentara sorga berdiri di sebelah kanan-Nya dan di sebelah kiri-Nya…”  Hmmm, menarik. Coba, siapakah tentara sorga? Semua bala tentara malaikat, benar? “…¹⁹ Dan TUHAN berfirman: ‘Siapakah yang akan membujuk Ahab, raja Israel, untuk maju berperang, supaya ia tewas di Ramot-Gilead?’…”  dengan kata lain siapa yang akan meyakinkan Ahab untuk pergi berperang supaya dia mati? Sekarang dengarkan apa yang terjadi,   “… Maka yang seorang berkata begini, yang lain berkata begitu…”  kalian tahu, semua di Dewan Surgawi, punya usul. Dan sekarang perhatikan apa yang terjadi. Ayat 20,    “…²⁰ Kemudian tampillah suatu roh, lalu berdiri di hadapan TUHAN. Ia berkata: ‘Aku ini akan membujuknya.’ TUHAN bertanya kepadanya: ‘Dengan cara apa?’  ²¹ Maka jawabnya: ‘Aku akan keluar dan menjadi roh dusta dalam mulut semua nabinya.’ Dan TUHAN berkata: ‘Engkau akan membujuknya, dan engkau akan berhasil pula. Keluarlah dan perbuatlah demikian!’ ²² Karena itu, lihatlah! TUHAN telah menaruh roh dusta ke dalam mulut nabi-nabimu ini, dan TUHAN telah menetapkan untuk menimpakan malapetaka kepadamu." [NKJV yang diindonesisakan].

Menurut pendapat kalian apa itu malaikat yang baik, malaikat yang setia yang berkata, “Aku yang akan pergi dan aku akan berbohong supaya Ahab pergi berperang dan supaya dia terbunuh”? Tentu saja bukan! Tuhan tidak memakai bohong untuk mencapai tujuanNya. Siapakah makhluk ini yang hadir di Dewan Surgawi yang berkata, “Aku yang pergi dan aku yang akan membujuknya supaya berperang sehingga dia terbunuh”? Menurut kalian siapakah roh pembohong ini? Itu Setan! Setan yang sama yang di Ayub pasal 1 pergi ke Dewan Surgawi.

Dan kalian berkata, “Ngapain Setan di sana?”

Nanti kita akan membahas ini.

Now do you know that when God makes decisions regarding this world, or any other world in the universe, God calls the heavenly council together?

God is not a dictator. God is not an autocrat. God doesn't simply say, “I'll do it all, and this is the way we're going to do it.” God consults the representatives of the universe.

Let me read to you from Patriarchs and Prophets, page 36. This is when Lucifer had these jealous feelings towards Christ. We're told: “In heavenly council…” that’s “c-o-u-n-c-i-l” it’s not talking about counseling. It's talking like City Council, in other words, “ In heavenly council the angels pleaded with Lucifer…”   when the Devil laid his strategy to tempt Adam and Eve and lead them into sin. In the book, Story of Redemption, page 29, we find this interesting statement: “God  assembled the angelic host to take measures to avert the threatened evil….” That is of Adam and Eve falling into sin. Notice, “…It was decided in heaven's council for angels to visit Eden and warn Adam that he was in danger from the foe. Two angels sped on their way to visit our first parents…” So everything concerning the operation and administration of the universe is decided in the heavenly council. And God, of course, presides in the heavenly council.

So what is being described in Job chapters 1 and 2, is the heavenly council. And those who appear there are the representatives of all of the sinless realms that God created; the representatives of the worlds that never sinned.

Nah, apakah kalian tahu ketika Tuhan membuat keputusan mengenai dunia ini atau dunia yang lain di alam semesta, Tuhan memanggil Dewan Surgawi untuk berkumpul? Tuhan bukanlah diktator. Tuhan bukan autokrat. Tuhan tidak begitu saja berkata, “Aku akan melakukannya Sendiri, dan inilah caranya melakukannya.” Tuhan berunding dengan para wakil dari alam semesta.

Saya akan membacakan dari Patriarchs and Prophets hal. 36. Ini adalah ketika Lucifer memiliki perasaan iri hati terhadap Kristus. Kita diberitahu, “Di Dewan Surgawi…” itu  “c-o-u-n-c-i-l” (= dewan) ini tidak berbicara tentang konseling. Dengan kata lain ini berbicara tentang semacam dewan pemerintahan. “Di Dewan Surgawi, para malaikat memohon Lucifer…” ketika  Iblis membeberkan strateginya untuk mencobai Adam dan Hawa agar memimpin mereka untuk berbuat dosa. Dalam buku Story of Redemption hal. 29, kita mendapat pernyataan yang sangat menarik ini: “Tuhan mengumpulkan bala tentara surgawi untuk mengambil tindakan menhindarkan ancaman jahat itu…” yaitu tentang membuat Adam dan Hawa jatuh dalam dosa. Perhatikan, “…Dalam Dewan Surgawi diputuskan malaikat-malaikat akan berkunjung ke Eden dan memperingatkan Adam bahwa dia berada dalam bahaya dari musuh. Dua orang malaikat bergegas pergi mengunjungi orangtua kita yang pertama…” Jadi segala sesuatu yang berkaitan dengan operasional dan administrasi alam semesta diputuskan dalam Dewan Surgawi. Dan Tuhan, tentu saja, mengepalai Dewan Surgawi ini.

Jadi apa yang digambarkan di Ayub pasal 1 dan 2 adalah Dewan Surgawi. Dan mereka yang muncul di sana adalah wakil-wakil dari semua dunia yang tidak berdosa yang diciptakan Tuhan, wakil-wakil dari dunia-dunia yang tidak pernah berdosa.

Now how does Ellen White identify the twenty-four elders? Who are they? Who are the sons of God, and the morning stars according to the Spirit of Prophecy?

In The Desire of Ages, in a statement that we read in our last study together, Ellen White clearly identifies who the sons of God are. Remember, the sons of God are angels, right? According to her definition the sons of God are angels. But now she's going to amplify what that means; who the sons of God are. When Jesus arrives in heaven we're told who was present there. She says: “The commanders of the angel hosts, the sons of God, the representatives of the unfallen worlds are assembled.” Notice what she says, “…the sons of God, the commanders of the angel hosts, the representatives of the unfallen worlds…” Three phrases that are describing the same group, “…are assembled.” And then she says this: “…The heavenly council before which Lucifer had accused God and His Son, the representatives of those sinless realms over which Satan had thought to establish his dominion,—all are there to welcome the Redeemer.”  Interesting statement!

So the sons of God are the commanders of the angel hosts. They're the highest of angels. They're powerful angels. They are the representatives of the worlds that never sinned. In other words, the worlds are represented by powerful angels that God has placed to rule over them.

Nah, bagaimana Ellen White mengidentifikasi ke-24 tua-tua? Siapakah mereka? Siapakah anak-anak Allah dan bintang-bintang fajar menurut Roh Nubuat?

Di Desire of Ages, dalam suatu pernyataan yang telah kita baca dalam pelajaran kita yang terakhir, Ellen White dengan jelas mengidentifikasi siapa anak-anak Allah tersebut. Ingat, anak-anak Allah adalah malaikat-malaikat, benar? Menurut definisi Ellen White, anak-anak Allah adalah malaikat. Tetapi sekarang dia akan memperjelas apa maksudnya itu, siapakah anak-anak Allah ini. Ketika Yesus tiba di Surga, kita mendapat tahu siapa yang hadir di sana. Ellen White berkata, “Panglima-panglima bala tentara malaikat, anak-anak Allah, wakil-wakil dari dunia-dunia yang tidak berdosa, berkumpul…” Perhatikan apa katanya, “…anak-anak Allah, panglima-panglima bala tentara malaikat, wakil-wakil dari dunia-dunia yang tidak berdosa…” Tiga istilah yang menggambarkan kelompok yang sama, “…berkumpul…” Kemudian Ellen White berkata ini, “…Dewan Surgawi kepada siapa Lucifer pernah menggugat Tuhan dan PutraNya, wakil-wakil dari dunia-dunia yang tidak pernah berdosa, di mana Setan menyangka bisa mendirikan kekuasaannya ~ semua hadir di sana untuk menyambut Sang Penebus…” Pernyataan yang menarik!

Jadi anak-anak Allah adalah panglima-panglima bala tentara malaikat. Mereka adalah malaikat-malaikat yang tertinggi, malaikat-malaikat yang besar kuasanya, mereka adalah wakil-wakil dari dunia-dunia yang tidak pernah berdosa. Dengan kata lain, dunia-dunia tersebut diwakili oleh malaikat-malaikat yang besar kuasanya yang ditempatkan Tuhan untuk memerintah di sana.

Now, the question comes up. So you're saying that there are other inhabited worlds in the universe? Absolutely! The Bible has many hints to that effect. Let me give you just one text that indicates that, and then I'm going to read you a quotation from Billy Graham, probably the most famous preacher that exists. He's well known in the whole world. Now notice what it says in Revelation 12:12. “Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them!...” Did you notice that? Rejoice what?  “…O heavens and you who dwell in them!...” And then it says,   “…Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time."

So notice, it says here, “…rejoice, oh heavens and you who dwell in them…” So there's inhabitants that dwell in all of the heavens, according to this text.

Now Billy Graham, so that you know that this is not just a preposterous idea that Pastor Stephen Bohr has,  notice what he had to say. “I believe there is life on other planets. We have this galaxy, the Milky Way, and they now speculate that there are millions and millions of galaxies. And in each galaxy a trillion stars, planets and all that, I can’t imagine that we are the only one that has life, that would be a terribly egotistical thing for us to say as a planet. I believe that God is the God of all of it, and that’s why He is so awesome and so tremendous, and why when I come into His presence, I feel that I am not worthy…”  So Billy Graham is saying, “I believe that there are many worlds in the universe that are populated. They are inhabited.”  But listen up! None of them have sinned except for this little planet: planet Earth.

Nah, muncul pertanyaan.

“Jadi Anda berkata bahwa ada dunia-dunia lain yang berpenghuni di alam semesta?”

Tentu saja! Alkitab memberikan banyak petunjuk akan hal itu. Saya akan memberikan hanya satu teks yang menunjukkan hal itu, lalu saya akan membacakan kutipan dari Billy Graham, mungkin dia adalah pengkhotbah yang paling terkenal yang pernah hidup. Dia sangat terkenal di seluruh dunia.

Bersukacitalah apa?  “…hai seluruh langit dan kamu sekalian yang diam di dalamnya…”  kemudian katanya, “…celakalah  kamu, hai penghuni bumi dan laut! Karena Iblis telah turun kepadamu, dalam geramnya yang dahsyat, karena ia tahu, bahwa waktunya sudah singkat." [NKJV yang diindonesiakan].

Jadi perhatikan, dikatakan di sana, “…bersukacitalah, hai seluruh langit dan kamu sekalian yang diam di dalamnya…”   Jadi ada penduduk yang diam di seluruh langit, menurut teks ini.

Sekarang Billy Graham, supaya kalian tahu ini bukan hanya ide tidak masuk akalnya Pastor Stephen Bohr. Perhatikan apa yang dikatakan Billy Graham: “Saya yakin ada kehidupan di planet-planet yang lain. Kita mempunyai galaksi ini, Bima Sakti, dan mereka sekarang berspekulasi bahwa ada jutaan-jutaan galaksi, dan di setiap galaksi bertrilyun bintang, planet dan semuanya itu. Saya tidak bisa membayangkan bahwa kita adalah satu-satunya planet di mana ada kehidupan. Itu adalah sesuatu yang sangat egoistis jika kita berkata demikian sebagai planet. Saya percaya Tuhan adalah Tuhan dari semuanya itu, itulah sebabnya Dia begitu mengagumkan dan hebat, dan mengapa bila saya masuk ke hadiratNya, saya merasa sangat tidak layak…” Jadi Billy Graham berkata, “Saya percaya ada banyak dunia yang berpenduduk di alam semesta. Dunia-dunia itu berpenghuni.” Tetapi dengarkan! Tidak satu pun dari mereka pernah berdosa kecuali planet kecil ini: planet bumi. 

Now Ellen White then identifies the sons of God  as the commanders of the angel hosts,  and as the representatives of the unfallen worlds.  Now I want to read you some additional statements  from Ellen White that shows that the elders are really angels. Now let me ask you, if the elders are really angels, can the twenty-four elders be those who resurrected with Christ? Those human beings who resurrected with Christ? It would be impossible.

Nah, jadi Ellen White mengidentifikasi anak-anak Allah sebagai panglima-panglima bala tentara malaikat, dan sebagai wakil-wakil dunia-dunia yang tidak pernah berdosa.

Sekarang saya mau membacakan beberapa pernyataan tambahan dari Ellen White yang menunjukkan bahwa ke-24 tua-tua itu benar-benar adalah malaikat.

Sekarang saya tanya, jika tua-tua itu adalah malaikat, bisakah mereka itu yang dibangkitkan bersama Kristus, manusia-manusia yang bangkit bersama Kristus? Mustahil, bukan?

Now Revelation, chapter 5, verse 5.

Notice, John is weeping because no one is worthy to open the scroll. And no one is worthy to read the contents of the scroll. And we're told in Revelation 5, verse 5  that one of the twenty-four elders comes to John  to console him. Let me read that text, Revelation 5:5 ^“But one of the elders said to me…” notice, "…one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

Who was it that spoke those words, “Don't weep, behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David,  has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals”? It says in Revelation 5, verse 5, that it was one of the elders.

Sekarang,  Wahyu 5:5.

Perhatikan, Yohanes menangis karena tidak ada yang layak membuka gulungan itu. Dan tidak ada yang layak membaca isi gulungan itu. Kita diberitahu di Wahyu 5:5 bahwa salah satu dari ke-24 tua-tua itu datang ke Yohanes dan menghiburnya. Saya akan bacakan teks itu. Wahyu 5:5,  “Tetapi berkatalah seorang dari tua-tua itu kepadaku…”  perhatikan, “…berkatalah seorang dari tua-tua itu kepadaku, ‘Jangan engkau menangis! Lihatlah, Singa dari suku Yehuda, yaitu Akar Daud telah menang untuk membuka  gulungan kitab itu dan membuka ketujuh meterainya.’

Siapa yang mengucapkan kata-kata ‘Jangan engkau menangis! Lihatlah, Singa dari suku Yehuda, yaitu Akar Daud telah menang untuk membuka  gulungan kitab itu dan membuka ketujuh meterainya.’ ? Dikatakan di Wahyu 5:5, bahwa itu adalah salah satu tua-tua.

Now notice what Ellen White had to say about this in Manuscript Releases Volume 12, and pages 296 and 297. This is powerful. She's speaking about the same event, and this is how she describes it. “John says: ‘I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon’ [verse 4]. The vision as presented to John made its impression upon his mind. The destiny of every nation was contained in that book. John was distressed at the utter inability of any human being or angelic  intelligence to read the words, or even to look thereon. His soul was wrought up to such a point of agony and suspense…” now listen carefully,  “…that one of the strong angels had compassion on him, and laying his hand on him assuringly, said, ‘Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof” [verse 5].” 

Are you understanding why I'm bringing this to view? Revelation 5:5, says that it was whom? One of the elders.

Ellen White says the same words were spoken by one of the strong angels.

Nah, perhatikan apa yang dikatakan Ellen White mengenai ini dalam Manuscript Releases Vol. 12 hal. 296-297. Ini sangat berbobot. Ellen White mengatakan kata-kata yang sama diucapkan oleh salah satu malaikat yang perkasa.

Now let me give you another example. This one is from Revelation chapter 7. You're aware that Revelation chapter 7 describes a great multitude which no one can number, from every nation, tribe, tongue, and people. That's found in Revelation, chapter 7, and verse 9. The great multitude, which no one can number, from every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, is introduced there in verse 9.

And John, of course, wants to know who this group is. And so we find in verse 13 that it tells us: “Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, ‘Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?’" In other words, “Who is this great multitude that no one can number?” is what the elder is asking John.  Then I want you to notice that John replies to the elder's question by saying: “And I said to him, ‘Sir, you know.’…” This is verse 14. And then the elder says to John, this is in verse 15,  “…So he said to me, ‘These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb’.”

Now who is John entertaining a conversation with? With one of the what? With one of the elders. John and the elder are conversing, and they're conversing about the great multitude. Is the elder a part of the great multitude? He is not, because the elder is actually asking about the great multitude. He is not part of the great multitude from every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.  Is that clear in your mind?

Dengan kata lain “Siapa kumpulan orang banyak yang tidak terhitung ini?” Itulah yang ditanyakan tua-tua itu kepada Yohanes. Lalu saya mau kalian memperhatikan jawaban Yohanes kepada pertanyaan tua-tua itu, katanya, “Dan kataku kepadanya: ‘Tuanku, tuan mengetahuinya.’…”  Ini ayat 14. Kemudian tua-tua itu berkata kepada Yohanes, ini di ayat 15 (sebetulnya tetap ayat 14) “…Lalu ia berkata kepadaku: ‘Mereka ini adalah orang-orang yang keluar dari kesusahan yang besar; dan mereka telah mencuci jubah mereka dan membuatnya putih di dalam darah Anak Domba.’”

Nah, Yohanes sedang berbicara kepada siapa? Dengan salah satu apa? Dengan salah satu tua-tua. Yohanes dan tua-tua itu sedang berbicara, dan mereka membicarakan tentang kumpulan orang banyak itu. Apakah tua-tua itu bagian dari kumpulan orang banyak tersebut? Tidak. Karena tua-tua itu yang malah bertanya tentang kumpulan orang banyak itu. Dia bukanlah bagian dari kumpulan orang banyak ini yang terdiri dari segala bangsa, suku, bahasa dan kaum. Apakah itu jelas di pikiran kalian?

Now, you say, why do you bring this to view? Because I want you to notice how Ellen White interprets this.  In Signs of the Times, December 22, 1887, Ellen White describes  this same scene in these words: “John beholds an innumerable company, precious, refined, purified around the throne of the Majesty of Heaven…” Now notice,  “…The angel inquires of John, ‘What are these which are arrayed in white robes and whence came they?’…” what does Revelation say? Who ask that question? The elder. According to Ellen White, who ask the question? The angel, whom she has already identified as one of the strong angels already. She continues saying,  “…The angel inquires of John, ‘What are these which are arrayed in white robes and whence came they?’ And John answers, ‘Sir, thou knowest.’ Then the angel declares, ‘These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”

And so Revelation says that was one of the elders, and Ellen White says that it was one of the angels who is describing this.

Now I want you to remember this point because we're going to come back to it in the next two lectures.

Ellen White melanjutkan berkata, “…Malaikat itu bertanya kepada Yohanes, ‘Siapakah ini yang memakai jubah putih dan dari mana datangnya?’ Dan Yohanes menjawab, ‘Tuan, engkau yang tahu.’ Lalu malaikat itu menyatakan, ‘Mereka ini adalah mereka yang keluar dari kesusahan besar, dan telah mencuci jubah mereka, dan membuatnya putih dalam darah Anak Domba.’”

Maka kitab Wahyu berkata bahwa itu adalah salah satu tua-tua. Ellen White berkata yang memberikan keterangan itu adalah salah satu malaikat.

Sekarang saya mau kalian mengingat poin ini karena nanti kita akan kembali kemari dalam dua pelajaran berikut.

Because there's a problem in translation in Revelation 5, verses 9 and 10, you get the impression there that the twenty-four elders were redeemed from the earth, and they're going to reign on the earth,  which would give the impression that they're humans. Actually, we're going to find that there's a problem in translation here because the elders, we've already noticed,  are not part of the great multitude that no one can  number. I want you to save this in the corner of your mind,  because we're going to come back to it a little bit later.

Karena ada masalah penerjemahan di Wahyu 5:9-10, kita mendapat kesan bahwa ke-24 tua-tua adalah mereka yang ditebus dari dunia dan mereka akan memerintah dunia, sehingga memberikan kesan bahwa mereka adalah manusia. Now, two more quotations from Ellen White.

This one is found in a book called, Sermons and Talks Volume 1, page 20. She says this, and she's also still discussing Revelation, chapter 7. “John saw a company standing around the throne of God, and the angel asked him, ‘Who are these in white robes?’ He answered, ‘Thou knowest.’ And the angel said…” The angel said, notice. "…the angel said, ‘These are they who have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.’. There is a fountain in which we may wash from every stain of impurity…” And then she says, “…And says the angel, ‘He shall lead them to fountains of living waters, and shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.’ This will be the happy privilege of those that have kept the commandments of God in the earth…” Once again, three times in this statement Ellen White says, even though Revelation says it was one of the elders, Ellen White says, “the angel asked him”, “the angel said”, “says the angel”.

In the mind of Ellen G. White, the elders are powerful angels.

Sekali lagi, tiga kali dalam pernyataan ini Ellen White berkata ~ walaupun Wahyu berkata itu adalah salah satu tua-tua ~ Ellen White berkata,  “malaikat itu bertanya kepadanya”, “malaikat itu berkata”, “kata malaikat itu”.  Dalam pikiran Ellen G. White, tua-tua itu adalah malaikat-malaikat yang besar kuasanya.

Now notice one other statement. This is found in Signs of the Times, November 22, 1905. Speaking once again about Revelation, chapter 7: “As John saw the multitude standing around the throne of God, the question was asked, ‘What are these which are arrayed in white robes and whence came they?’…” Now notice! “…‘These are they which came out of great tribulation,’ the angel answered, ‘and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb’.”

I mean, if Ellen White had only one little statement where she said an angel, that would be one thing, but she has several statements where she says that the elder that spoke was one of the strong angels among the heavenly hosts.

Sekarang perhatikan satu pernyataan yang lain. Ini ditemukan di Signs of the Times edisi 22 November 1905. Maksud saya, jika Ellen White hanya membuat satu pernyataan kecil di mana dia berkata itu adalah malaikat, itu satu hal. Now in Revelation, chapter 5, and verse 8, we're told that the living creatures, and the twenty-four elders play harps. And they present the prayers of the saints before the throne of God. The elders and the four living creatures, we're told there in Revelation 5, verse 8, that they actually present the prayers of the saints before the throne of God in bowls of incense.

Now Ellen White is going to comment on this verse, Revelation 5 and verse 8. And I want you to notice what she says about these beings that offer the prayers of the saints before the throne of God. This is in the devotional book, Lift Him Up, page 370. She says: “Heavenly beings are appointed to answer the prayers of those who are working unselfishly for the interests of the cause of God…” What does she say? Heavenly beings are appointed to what?  To answer prayers. But then she says who these beings are.  Its not just any old being, any old heavenly being, because she says, “…The very highest angels in the heavenly courts are appointed to work out the prayers which ascend to God for the advancement of the cause of God. Each angel has his particular post of duty which he is not permitted to leave for any other place. If he should leave, the powers of darkness would gain an advantage.”

So in the mind of Ellen White the twenty-four elders are, according to her terms, strong angels, and according to this text, the highest of angels.

So my question is, are the twenty-four elders those that Jesus presented before the Father forty days after His resurrection? It's impossible because they were not angels. They were human beings.

Nah, di Wahyu 5:8 kita mendapat tahu bahwa makhluk-makhluk hidup dan ke-24 tua-tua memainkan kecapi. Dan mereka mempersembahkan doa-doa orang kudus di hadapan takhta Allah. Tua-tua dan ke-4 makhluk hidup di Wahyu 5:8 itu benar-benar mempersembahkan doa-doa orang kudus di hadapan takhta Allah dalam cawan-cawan dupa.

Sekarang, Ellen White akan memberi komen mengenai ayat Wahyu 5:8 ini. Dan saya mau kalian memperhatikan apa katanya mengenai makhluk-makhluk ini yang mempersembahkan doa-doa orang kudus di hadapan takhta Allah. Ini ada di buku devosi Lift Him Up hal. 370. Ellen White berkata, “Makhluk-makhluk surgawi diangkat untuk menjawab doa-doa mereka yang bekerja tanpa pamrih demi kepentingan tujuan Tuhan…” Apa katanya? Makhluk-makhluk surgawi diangkat untuk apa? Untuk menjawab doa-doa. Kemudian dia mengatakan siapakah makhluk-makhluk ini. Mereka bukan sekadar sembarang makhluk surgawi, karena dia berkata, “...Malaikat-malaikat yang tertinggi dalam pengadilan surgawi diangkat untuk menangani doa-doa yang naik ke Tuhan demi kemajuan pekerjaan Tuhan. Setiap malaikat memiliki kedudukannya sendiri yang tertentu yang tidak boleh ditinggalkannya ke tempat lain. Jika dia sampai pergi, kuasa kegelapan akan mendapat keuntungan.”

Jadi dalam pikiran Ellen White, ke-24 tua-tua, menurut keterangannya, adalah malaikat-malaikat yang besar kuasanya, dan menurut teks ini, mereka adalah malaikat-malaikat yang tertinggi.

Maka pertanyaannya adalah, apakah ke-24 tua-tua ini mereka yang dipersembahkan Yesus di hadapan Bapa 40 hari setelah kebangkitanNya? Mustahil karena mereka bukanlah malaikat, mereka manusia.

Now we need to answer the question, why was Satan among the sons of God in that meeting in Job chapter 2?  I think you already know the answer.  But let's go in Scripture to Luke 4, and verses 5 and 6. Luke, chapter 4:5-6 is going to explain why in the Old Testament, that is until the death of Jesus Christ, why, when there was a heavenly counsel, like the one mentioned in Chronicles, and the one mentioned in Job.  It says that Satan went among the sons of God ~ that is the highest of angels, the strongest angels ~ the Devil goes among that group and he presents himself before the heavenly council. Why? Luke 4:5 and 6, speaking about the temptation of Jesus on the mount, it says: “Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time…” To whom did these kingdoms belong at first? To whom did the kingdoms belong? They belonged to Adam! But now notice what the devil says.  “…⁶ And the devil said to Him, "All this authority…” that is over these kingdoms,  “…I will give You, and their glory; for this…” listen carefully,  “…has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. ⁷ Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours."” Did the devil claim that this was his? He claimed it was his. Who gave it to him?  He says, “Its been delivered to me”. Who delivered it to him? Adam delivered it to him. Who would have been in that heavenly council meeting if Adam had not given in to the tempter?  Adam would have been there in the heavenly council  representing planet Earth. But the Bible tells us that the devil stole Adam's throne. He stole Adam's territory, and therefore he says, “I now represent planet Earth.” And that's the reason why he appeared in the heavenly council in Chronicles as well as in the book of Job.

Satan stole the legitimate position of Adam,  the original representative of planet Earth. In fact Jesus, you know, shortly before His death, He says, “Now is the judgment of this world. Now the ruler of this world will be…” what? “…cast out!”  And He was talking about the cross. So Jesus Himself is saying, before His death, that the devil is the ruler of this world, because we become slaves of him who we choose to obey. Adam chose to obey the devil, and so now from being lord, from occupying the throne, from having the crown, Adam now becomes the servant, and he becomes the slave of the one who conquered him, as we've studied before.

Sekarang kita perlu menjawab pertanyaan, mengapa Setan ada di antara anak-anak Allah dalam pertemuan di Ayub pasal 2? Saya rasa kalian sudah tahu jawabannya. Tetapi marilah kita ke Lukas 4:5-6 yang akan menjelaskan mengapa di dalam Perjanjian Lama, yaitu hingga kematian Yesus Kristus, mengapa bila ada pertemuan Dewan Surgawi seperti yang disebut di Tawarikh dan yang disebut di Ayub,  dikatakan bahwa Setan datang di antara anak-anak Allah ~ yaitu malaikat-malaikat yang tertinggi, malaikat-malaikat yang kuasanya terbesar ~ Iblis datang di antara kelompok itu dan dia menghadirkan dirinya di hadapan Dewan Surgawi. Mengapa?

Lukas 4:5-6 berbicara mengenai pencobaan Yesus di atas bukit. Dikatakan, “Kemudian Iblis membawa Yesus ke gunung yang tinggi dan memperlihatkan kepada-Nya semua kerajaan dunia dalam sekejap mata…” Siapa yang tadinya memiliki kerajaan-kerajaan itu? Kerajaan-kerajaan itu tadinya milik siapa? Mereka milik Adam! Tetapi sekarang perhatikan apa kata Iblis,  “…⁶ Kata Iblis kepada-Nya: ‘Segala kekuasaan ini…”  yaitu atas kerajaan-kerajaan itu,  “…serta kemuliaannya akan kuberikan kepada-Mu, sebab semuanya itu…” dengarkan baik-baik, “…telah diserahkan kepadaku dan aku memberikannya kepada siapa saja yang kukehendaki. ⁷ Jadi jikalau Engkau mau menyembah aku, seluruhnya itu akan menjadi milik-Mu." [NKJV yang diindonesiakan].

Apakah Iblis mengklaim bahwa itu miliknya? Dia mengklaim itu miliknya. Siapa yang memberikannya kepada dia? Dia berkata, “itu telah diserahkan kepadaku”. Siapa yang menyerahkannya kepada dia? Adam yang menyerahkannya kepada dia. Siapa yang seharusnya ada dalam pertemuan Dewan Surgawi seandainya Adam tidak menyerah kepada yang mencobainya? Adam yang seharusnya ada di Dewan Surgawi itu mewakili planet bumi. Tetapi Alkitab mengatakan kepada kita Iblis telah mencuri takhta Adam. Dia mencuri daerah kekuasaan Adam, oleh karena itu dia berkata, “Sekarang aku yang mewakili planet bumi.” Dan itulah alasannya mengapa dia muncul di Dewan Surgawi yang tercatat di kitab Tawarikh dan juga di kitab Ayub.

Setan telah mencuri kedudukan resmi Adam ~ wakil planet bumi yang asli. Bahkan tahukah kalian singkat sebelum kematianNya, Yesus berkata, “Sekarang ini berlangsung penghakiman atas dunia ini: sekarang juga penguasa dunia ini akan…”  apa?   “… dilemparkan ke luar.” Dan Yesus  sedang berbicara tentang salib.

Jadi Yesus sendiri berkata sebelum kematianNya, bahwa Iblis adalah penguasa dunia ini karena kita telah menjadi budak siapa yang kita pilih untuk kita patuhi. Adam memilih mematuhi Iblis, maka dari posisi tuan, dari menduduki takhta, dari memiliki mahkota, Adam sekarang menjadi hamba, menjadi budak yang telah mengalahkannya, seperti yang sudah kita pelajari.

Now we need to transition.

Why do all of the worlds of the universe have strong angels, or the highest of the angels representing them,  while planet Earth was represented by Adam?

Are you understanding my question?

Wouldn't we expect God also to place a powerful, or the highest of angels to represent planet Earth? Why did God do something different with this Earth, and have someone from the human race represent planet Earth, and not one of the strong, or powerful angels?

The answer is that God's plan for the human race  was a different plan than for any other world that God created in the universe. You see, the worlds are represented by strong angels, or by the highest of angels, as is going to become clearer and clearer. But the purpose for the creation of this world was different than the creation of any other world in the universe.

And you say, “How do you know that?”  Sons and Daughters of God, page 7. In this devotional book, Ellen White explains that this world had a different type of being than every other world in the universe. This is what she says: “All heaven took a deep and joyful interest in the creation of the world and of man…” Notice, all heaven is interested in what's taking place on Earth. She says: “…Human beings were a new and distinct order…” They were a new and distinct order. “…They were made ‘in the image of God’…” and, listen carefully, “…and it was the Creator's design that they should populate the earth. They were to live in close communion with heaven, receiving power from the Source of all power. Upheld by God, they were to live sinless lives..”     

Was this order a distinct order? Was it different than any other planet in the universe? Yes. She says this was a new and a distinct order, and the idea was that man would do what? He would populate the what? He would populate the Earth.

Sekarang kita harus beralih.

Mengapa semua dunia di alam semesta memiliki malaikat-malaikat yang besar kuasanya, atau malaikat-malaikat tertinggi yang mewakili mereka sementara planet bumi diwakili oleh Adam?

Apakah kalian paham pertanyaan saya?

Tidakkah seharusnya Tuhan juga mengangkat malaikat yang berkuasa, atau malaikat tertinggi untuk mewakili planet bumi? Mengapa Tuhan melakukan sesuatu yang berbeda pada bumi ini dan mengangkat dari umat manusia untuk mewakili planet bumi, bukan salah satu malaikat yang perkasa atau yang besar kuasanya?

Jawabannya adalah, rancangan Tuhan bagi umat manusia berbeda dari rancangan untuk dunia-dunia lain yang diciptakan Tuhan di alam semesta. Kalian lihat, dunia-dunia itu diwakili oleh malaikat-malaikat yang perkasa, atau oleh malaikat-malaikat yang tertinggi, dan ini semakin lama semakin jelas. Tetapi tujuan menciptakan dunia ini berbeda dari tujuan menciptakan dunia lain mana pun di alam semesta.

Dan kalian berkata, “Dari mana Anda tahu itu?”

Buku Sons and Daughters of God, hal. 7. Dalam buku devosi ini Ellen White menjelaskan bahwa dunia ini memiliki tipe makhluk yang berbeda dari dunia-dunia lain di alam semesta. Inilah yang dikatakannya, “Seluruh Surga memberikan perhatian dan sukacita yang besar dalam penciptaan dunia dan manusia…” perhatikan, seluruh Surga memberi perhatian atas apa yang terjadi di bumi. Ellen White berkata, “…Manusia adalah jenis yang baru dan khas…” mereka ini jenis baru dan khas. “…Mereka dibuat ‘menurut gambar Allah’…” dan dengarkan baik-baik, “…dan sesuai rancangan Sang Pencipta mereka dijadikan untuk mengisi dunia. Mereka dirancang untuk hidup dalam hubungan yang erat dengan Surga, menerima kuasa dari Sumber segala kuasa. Ditopang oleh Tuhan, mereka dirancang untuk hidup tanpa dosa…”

Apakah jenis ini suatu jenis yang khas? Apakah berbeda dari planet yang lain di alam semesta? Ya. Ellen White berkata ini adalah jenis baru yang khas, dan rencananya adalah manusia akan apa? Akan memenuhi apa? Akan memenuhi bumi.

Now the question is, what would be the purpose of populating the Earth? Is it possible that the other worlds do not have  procreation, that God established procreation on this world for a very specific purpose?

The Bible tells us that man was created a little lower than the angels. That after man would pass the test of being loyal to God, God would use the human race to repopulate the vacancies that were left in heaven by Satan and his angels. 

Now you're saying, “Wow! Is that in the Bible?”

Hold on! You're going to see it.

First of all, allow me to read The Truth About Angels page 48 and 49. The Truth About Angels, 48 and 49, where Ellen White explicitly states that this was God's purpose in establishing procreation on this earth. This is the earth that has procreation. It has marriage, and the purpose of marriage, which the devil has destroyed, to a great degree, is to prepare a group of people to take the places that were left vacant by the fall of Satan and his angels. This is what Ellen White says: “God created man for His own glory that after test and trial…” Notice, after they passed the test and trial,  “…the human family might become one with the heavenly family. It was God’s purpose to repopulate heaven with the human family.”

What does it mean to repopulate? Were there vacancies left in heaven? Yes! She says it was God's purpose to repopulate heaven.

Now you say, “Well, that was before sin. What about after sin? Was it still God's plan to repopulate heaven?”

Listen to this statement. Prophets and Kings, and then we're going to go to the Bible. 

Sekarang pertanyaannya, apa tujuannya untuk memenuhi bumi? Apakah mungkin dunia-dunia lain tidak memiliki kemampuan berkembangbiak sehingga Tuhan menjadikan dunia ini mampu berkembangbiak untuk suatu tujuan yang sangat khas?

Alkitab mengatakan kepada kita bahwa manusia diciptakan sedikit lebih rendah dari malaikat. Bahkan setelah manusia lulus ujian kesetiaan kepada Tuhan, Tuhan akan memakai umat manusia untuk mengisi lowongan yang ditinggalkan di Surga oleh Setan dan malaikat-malaikatnya.

Nah, kalian berkata, “Wow! Apakah itu tertulis di Alkitab?”

Jangan terkejut, kalian akan melihatnya.

Pertama, izinkan saya membaca The Truth about Angels hal. 48-49, di mana Ellen White secara khusus menyatakan bahwa inilah tujuan Tuhan menciptakan kemampuan berkembangbiak di dunia ini. Dunia inilah yang bisa berkembangbiak, ada perkawinan, dan tujuan perkawinan ~ yang telah dirusak oleh Iblis ~ utamanya adalah mempersiapkan sekelompok manusia untuk menggantikan tempat yang ditinggalkan lowong oleh kejatuhan Setan dan malaikat-malaikatnya. Inilah yang dikatakan Ellen White, “Tuhan menciptakan manusia untuk kemuliaanNya sendiri sehingga setelah ujian dan pencobaan...” perhatikan, setelah mereka melewati ujian dan pencobaan, “…keluarga manusia boleh menjadi satu dengan keluarga surgawi. Tujuan Tuhan adalah mengisi populasi Surga kembali dengan keluarga manusia.”

Apa maksudnya mengisi populasi lagi? Apakah ada lowongan di Surga? Ya! Ellen White berkata bahwa tujuan Tuhan adalah untuk mengisi populasi Surga lagi.

Nah, kalian berkata, “Tapi itu kan sebelum dosa. Bagaimana setelah ada dosa? Apakah Tuhan masih bermaksud mengisi populasi Surga lagi?”

Dengarkan pernyataan ini. Prophets and Kings, kemudian kita akan ke Alkitab.

Prophets and Kings, page 588 and 589. She says: “Satan has an accurate knowledge of the sins that he has tempted God's people to commit, and he urges his accusations against them, declaring, that by their sins they have forfeited divine protection, and claiming that he has the right to destroy them. He pronounces them just as deserving as himself of exclusion from the favor of God…”  And now notice what he says to God. “…‘Are these,’ he says, ‘the people who are to take my place in heaven, and the place of the angels who united with me?’...” Interesting! Are you understanding what he's saying? Are these the ones that are going to take my place, and the place of the angels that fell from heaven?

That's Prophets and Kings, 588 and 589.

Prophets and Kings hal. 588-589, Ellen White berkata, “Setan memiliki pengetahuan yang akurat mengenai dosa-dosa yang berhasil diumpankannya yang dilakukan umat Tuhan, dan dia melontarkan tuduhan-tuduhannya terhadap mereka, menyatakan bahwa dengan dosa-dosa itu mereka telah kehilangan perlindungan ilahi, dan mengklaim bahwa dia berhak membinasakan mereka. Dia menyatakan bahwa mereka sama layaknya seperti dirinya untuk dikucilkan dari rahmat Tuhan…” Dan sekarang perhatikan apa katanya kepada Tuhan. “…‘Apakah ini’ katanya, ‘manusia-manusia yang akan menggantikan tempatku di Surga dan tempat para malaikat yang bergabung bersamaku?’…” Menarik! Apakah kalian paham apa yang dikatakannya? Apakah ini yang akan mengambil tempatku, dan tempat para malaikat yang jatuh dari Surga? Itu dari Prophets and Kings, hal. 588-589.

Notice, Story of Redemption, page 19. She mentions this many times. Story of Redemption, page 19. She says: “The Father consulted His Son in regard to at once carrying out their purpose to make man to inhabit the earth…” This is after Lucifer sinned. God says, “Should We go ahead?”  “Yes, Let's go ahead with the plan.” She continues saying: “…He would place man upon probation to test his loyalty before he could be rendered eternally secure. If he endured the test wherewith God saw fit to prove him, he should eventually…” now listen carefully, “…he should eventually be equal with the angels. He was to have the favor of God, and he was to converse with angels, and they with him…”  What would happen with man if he passed the test and the trial? He would become equal with what?  With the angels! He was created a little lower than the angels according to Psalm 8, but if he passed the test of the trial, we're told here that he would be equal with the angels.

Perhatikan, The Story of Redemption, hal. 19. Ellen White menyebut ini banyak kali. Story of Redemption hal 19, Ellen White berkata, “Bapak bertanya kepada AnakNya mengenai segera dilaksanakannya rencana menciptakan manusia untuk mengisi bumi…” ini adalah setelah Lucifer berdosa. Tuhan berkata, “Apakah Kita akan lanjut?” “Ya. Mari Kita lanjut dengan rencana itu.” Ellen White meneruskan, “…Dia akan memberi masa percobaan kepada manusia untuk menguji kesetiaannya sebelum manusia bisa  dianggap pasti selamanya. Jika manusia lulus ujian yang dianggap Tuhan tepat untuk membuktikan kesetiaannya, akhirnya manusia akan…” sekarang dengarkan baik-baik, “…akhirnya manusia akan sederajat dengan para malaikat. Manusia akan mendapatkan rahmat Tuhan, dan akan berkomunikasi dengan malaikat, dan malaikat dengan manusia…” Apa yang akan terjadi jika manusia lulus ujian dan pencobaan? Dia akan menjadi sederajat dengan apa? Dengan malaikat-malaikat! Menurut Mazmur 8, dia tadinya diciptakan sedikit lebih rendah dari malaikat tetapi jika dia lulus ujian pencobaan, kita diberitahu bahwa manusia akan menjadi sederajat dengan malaikat.

One more statement then we'll go to the Bible.

The Truth About Angels, page 49. This is so clear that nobody can misunderstand what Ellen White  is saying. She says: “The vacancies made in heaven by the fall of Satan and his angels will be filled by the redeemed of the Lord.”

I mean how could she be clearer?  She says, the vacancies made in heaven by the fall of Satan and his angels will be filled by the redeemed of the Lord. 

Satu lagi pernyataan, kemudian kita akan melihat Alkitab.

The Truth About Angels, hal 49. Ini begitu jelas, hingga tidak ada yang bisa salah mengartikan apa yang dikatakan Ellen White. Dia berkata, “Lowongan yang terjadi di Surga karena kejatuhan Setan dan malaikat-malaikatnya, akan diisi oleh mereka yang diselamatkan Tuhan.”

Maksud saya, mana bisa Ellen White menyatakan lebih jelas daripada ini? Dia berkata, “Lowongan yang terjadi di Surga karena kejatuhan Setan dan malaikat-malaikatnya, akan diisi oleh mereka yang diselamatkan Tuhan.”

And so people ask, they say, “Well, all you're doing is reading Ellen White.”

So far! But now let's go and see if Scripture says the same thing;  if Ellen White is in harmony with Scripture.

Go with me to Luke, chapter 20, and verses 34 to 36.  Luke, chapter 20:34-36.  Jesus is entertaining a conversation with the Sadducees. The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead,  and so they present this hypothetical case of this individual who was married seven times. Who would the spouse be when the resurrection took place? In other words, they're ridiculing the idea that there's going to be a resurrection by giving this extreme case.

Now notice Luke 20:34 to 36, how Jesus answers. “Jesus answered and said to them, ‘The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage…”  What does “this age” mean? This world, right?  “…’The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. ³⁵ But those who are counted worthy to attain that age…” What is “that age”? The new earth, right?  “…that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage…”  Why is there not going to be any marriage? Because the purpose of marriage has been what? fulfilled. Luke continues saying, quoting Jesus once again,   “…But those who are counted worthy to attain that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage,³⁶ nor can they die anymore…”  Now listen carefully,  “…for they are equal to the angels…” Wow! They are equal to what? To the angels! Is that what Ellen White said? Absolutely! But there's more.   “…they are equal to the angels and are…” what?  “…sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.”

Maka orang-orang berkata, mereka berkata, “Yiiah, Anda hanya membaca Ellen White.”

Sejauh ini! Tetapi marilah kita pergi dan melihat apakah Firman Tuhan mengatakan hal yang sama, apakah Ellen White itu selaras dengan Firman Tuhan.

Marilah bersama saya ke Lukas 20:34-36 Yesus sedang melayani pembicaraan dengan orang-orang Saduki. Orang Saduki tidak percaya adanya kebangkitan orang mati, maka mereka mengajukan kasus hipotetikal mengenai seseorang yang menikah 7 kali. Siapakah yang menjadi pasangannya ketika kebangkitan? Dengan kata lain, mereka sedang mengolok-olok ide bahwa akan ada kebangkitan dengan mengajukan kasus yang ekstrem ini.

Nah, perhatikan Lukas 20:34-36 bagaimana Yesus menjawab. “Jawab Yesus kepada mereka: ‘Orang-orang zaman ini kawin dan dikawinkan…”  apa maksudnya “zaman ini”? Dunia ini, benar?   “…’Orang-orang zaman ini kawin dan dikawinkan, ³⁵ tetapi mereka yang dianggap layak untuk mencapai zaman yang itu…”  apa maksudnya “zaman yang itu”? Dunia Baru, benar?   “…zaman yang itu dan kebangkitan dari orang mati, tidak kawin maupun dikawinkan…”  mengapa nanti tidak akan ada perkawinan? Karena tujuan perkawinan sudah apa? Sudah dipenuhi. Lukas melanjutkan berkata, mengutip Yesus lagi,    “…tetapi mereka yang dianggap layak untuk mencapai zaman yang itu dan kebangkitan dari orang mati, tidak kawin maupun dikawinkan. ³⁶ Sebab mereka tidak dapat mati lagi…”  sekarang dengarkan baik-baik,   “…karena mereka sama seperti malaikat-malaikat…”  Wow! Mereka sama seperti apa? Malaikat! Apakah itu yang dikatakan Ellen White? Tentu saja! Tetapi masih ada terusannya.   “…mereka sama seperti malaikat-malaikat dan mereka adalah…”  apa?   “…anak-anak Allah, yaitu anak-anak kebangkitan.’” [NKJV yang diindonesiakan].

Are you catching the picture here?

Four conclusions that we can reach from this answer of Jesus:

1.   Marriage had a specific purpose in this age. And that purpose was what? procreation.

2.   There will be no marriage in the world to come, because the purpose of marriage has been fulfilled.

3.   In the world to come the redeemed will be equal to the angels, as we read from Ellen White.

4.   The redeemed will be called sons of God. The same name that is given in the book of Job.

Apakah kalian menangkap gambarnya di sini?

4 konklusi yang bisa kita peroleh dari jawaban Yesus ini:

1.   Perkawinan memiliki tujuan khusus dalam masa ini. Dan tujuannya itu apa? Berkembang biak.

2.   Tidak akan ada perkawinan di dunia yang akan datang karena tujuan perkawinan sudah dipenuhi.

3.   Di dunia yang akan datang, orang-orang tebusan akan menjadi sederajat dengan malaikat-malaikat, seperti yang kita baca dari tulisan Ellen White.

4.   Orang-orang tebusan akan disebut anak-anak Allah, nama-nama yang sama yang disebut di kitab Ayub.

Now let's conclude by reading a powerful statement  from Ellen White. This is found in the book, Medical Ministry page 99. And this will be our concluding thought.

Have you learned anything new tonight? There's a lot of stuff in Scripture that, perhaps,  we haven't seen before. And this is only one of the three.  See, this will give you just a piece of the puzzle. Now you need to come to the two other pieces, so that you have a complete picture. This is what she says: “There are men today who express their belief that there will be marriages and births in the new earth…” There are individuals who say what? That there will be marriages and births in the new earth,  “…but those who believe the Scriptures cannot accept such doctrines. The doctrine…”  listen carefully,  “…that children will be born in the new earth is not a part of the ‘sure word of prophecy’.…”  Is there going to be procreation when we are established in the new earth? Absolutely not! Why not?  Because the purpose of procreation has been fulfilled. The vacancies left by the devil and his angels have been what? Have been filled! She continues saying:  “…The words of Christ are too plain to be misunderstood...” Those are the words that we just read from the gospel of Luke. “…They should forever settle the question of marriages and births in the new earth. Neither those who shall be raised from the dead, nor those who shall be translated without seeing death, will marry or be given in marriage. They will be as the angels of God, members of the royal family.”

Powerful statement! Is what she is saying Biblical? Absolutely Biblical! And I'll tell you something. I'll just testify to this.

Sekarang mari kita akhiri dengan membaca suatu pernyataan yang berbobot dari Ellen White. Ini ada di buku Medical Ministry hal. 99. Dan ini akan merupakan renungan pamungkas kita.

Apakah kalian telah mendapat pelajaran baru malam ini? Ada banyak bahan di dalam Firman Tuhan yang mungkin belum pernah kita lihat sebelumnya. Dan ini hanya satu dari ketiganya. Lihat, ini hanya satu potongan saja dari puzzlenya. Sekarang kita perlu datang ke dua potongan yang lain supaya kita memperoleh gambaran yang lengkap.

Inilah yang dikatakan Ellen White, “Sekarang ini ada orang-orang yang menyatakan keyakinan mereka bahwa di dunia baru akan ada perkawinan dan kelahiran…” Ada orang-orang yang berkata apa? Akan ada perkawinan dan kelahiran di dunia baru. “…tetapi mereka yang mempercayai Firman Tuhan tidak bisa menerima doktrin demikian. Doktrin bahwa…” dengarkan baik-baik, “…anak-anak akan dilahirkan di dunia baru bukanlah bagian dari ‘kata-kata nubuat yang pasti’ (2 Pet. 1:19)…” Apakah nanti ada kelahiran bila kita sudah berada di dunia baru? Sama sekali tidak! Mengapa tidak? Karena tujuan berkembangbiak sudah dipenuhi. Lowongan yang ditinggalkan  Iblis dan malaikat-malaikatnya telah apa? Telah diisi! Ellen Whitel melanjutkan berkata, “…Kata-kata Kristus terlalu jelas untuk disalahpahami…” Maksudnya, kata-kata yang baru kita baca dari Injil Lukas. “…Mereka harus menerima soal perkawinan dan kelahiran di dunia baru itu dan tidak mempermasalahkannya lagi. Baik yang dibangkitkan dari kematian maupun mereka yang diubahkan tanpa mengalami kematian, tidak akan menikah atau dinikahkan. Mereka akan seperti malaikat-malaikat Tuhan, anggota keluarga kerajaan.”

Pernyataan yang berbobot! Apakah yang dikatakan Ellen White itu alkitabiah? Seluruhnya alkitabiah! Dan saya akan mengatakan sesuatu, saya akan memberikan kesaksian.

 

There are many people who are critical of Ellen White.

They say, “Oh no, you Adventists, you go by what Ellen White says, but we go by what the Bible says.”

Well, surprise, surprise! If you really sat down with an open mind, and a sincere heart, and you read the writings of Ellen White, and you searched in Scripture for what she says, you would always find it, because her writings are in harmony with Scripture. It's only a misinterpretation of her writings that leads people to think that what she wrote, under inspiration, was contrary to what the scriptures say.

You know, I find that there are two different kinds of people that criticize Ellen White.  The first type are those that never read anything that she wrote. There are plenty of those. They go to the internet and they open these websites, you know, that are critical of Ellen White. Some of them are hateful, and they raise objections that, by the way, have been answered by the White Estate with luxury of detail. If you go to the White Estate website all of these objections are answered. But they bring them up and the novices who are unacquainted with Ellen White, they read these criticisms of Ellen White, and they say, “Oh, Adventists; they're a cult, because Ellen White, you know, they have this prophet who contradicts Scripture.” So one group are those individuals who never read what Ellen White says.

The other group are those who read the writings of Ellen White with the intention of criticizing. Do you know that there are people who read the Bible with the intention of criticizing the Bible, in finding mistakes in the Bible? If you go to the Bible you might find some mistakes of minor details. But that does not effect my view of the  inspiration of the Bible. The Bible has shown that it is beyond human reason to have produced it.

Are there little insignificant details that might be a problem in the Bible? Yes. If you let these things ruin your faith I feel sorry for you. But the Bible shows that it is trustworthy.

The same is true with Ellen G. White. Her writings, folks, are trustworthy. What we need to do is we need to sit down, read what she says, and then do what I usually do, and that is now where does the Bible say that? And so we go from her writings to the Bible.  Sometimes I'll go to the Bible and I'll read something that I can't understand in the Bible, and I say, “I wonder what Ellen White has to say about this.” And so then I go to the writings of Ellen White, where she comments on that verse, and she gives some light and some understanding that I had not found in my study of Scripture. I say, “Oh, now I understand what the scripture is saying.” It works both ways.

You can go to scripture and then go to see what Ellen White says, or you can go to Ellen White and then say, “Now wait a minute. Is that found in the Bible?” And then you go to the Bible. They work back and forth.  In other words, its not either or, it's both.

Banyak orang suka mengritik Ellen White.

Mereka berkata, “Oh, kalian orang Advent, kalian menuruti apa kata Ellen White, tetapi kami menuruti apa kata Alkitab.”

Nah, kejutan! Jika kita sungguh-sungguh mau berpikir dengan hati yang terbuka, hati yang tulus, dan membaca tulisan-tulisan Ellen White, dan mencari di dalam Firman Tuhan tentang apa yang dikatakannya, kita akan selalu menemukannya, karena tulisan-tulisan Ellen White itu selaras dengan Firman Tuhan. Hanyalah bila tulisan-tulisannya disalahpahami maka itu membuat orang berpikir bahwa apa yang ditulisnya di bawah ilham [Roh Kudus], bertentangan dengan apa kata Firman Tuhan.

Kalian tahu, saya temukan dua jenis orang yang mengritik Ellen White. Yang pertama adalah mereka yang tidak pernah membaca apa pun yang ditulisnya. Ada banyak yang seperti ini. Mereka membuka internet, dan mereka membuka situs-situs yang, kalian tahu, mengritik Ellen White, beberapa dari situs-situs itu isinya penuh kebencian, dan mereka menyuarakan banyak keberatan yang sebenarnya telah dijawab oleh White Estate dengan banyak sekali detail. Jika kita ke situs White Estate semua keberatan itu dijawab. Tetapi mereka masih mengetengahkannya dan orang-orang baru yang belum kenal Ellen White yang membaca kritikan-kritikan tentang Ellen White ini, berkata, “Oh, orang Advent. Mereka itu sebuah kult, karena mereka memiliki nabi Ellen White itu yang mengkontradiksi Firman Tuhan.” Jadi kelompok pertama adalah mereka yang tidak pernah membaca apa yang dikatakan Ellen White.

Kelompok satunya adalah mereka yang membaca tulisan-tulisan Ellen White dengan tujuan untuk mengritik. Tahukah kalian ada orang-orang yang membaca Alkitab dengan tujuan untuk mengritik Alkitab, dengan mencari-cari kesalahan di Alkitab? Jika kita ke Alkitab kita bisa saja menemukan beberapa kesalahan detail kecil-kecil, tetapi itu tidak mempengaruhi pandangan saya bahwa Alkitab itu tulisan yang diilhami [oleh Roh Kudus]. Alkitab telah membuktikan bahwa itu adalah suatu produksi yang melampaui nalar manusia. Apakah ada detail-detail kecil yang tidak signifikan yang mungkin menjadi masalah dalam Alkitab? Ya. Jika kita mengizinkan hal-hal kecil ini merusak iman kita, maka saya merasa iba untuk kalian. Alkitab telah membuktikan bahwa dia bisa dipercaya.

Hal yang sama berlaku juga bagi Ellen G. White. Tulisannya, Saudara-saudara, dapat dipercaya. Apa yang harus kita lakukan adalah kita duduk, membaca apa yang dikatakannya, kemudian lakukan apa yang biasanya saya lakukan dan itu adalah mencari dalam Alkitab, di mana di Alkitab dikatakan demikian. Jadi dari tulisan Ellen White kita ke Alkitab. And folks, if we read the writings of Ellen White with an open heart, you'll receive a tremendous blessing. She's not contradicting scripture, for example, when she says that the elders are strong and the highest of angels. As we're going to continue studying, you're going to be amazed as we continue studying these things at how what Ellen White says is in perfect harmony with Scripture.

So folks, we have a lot to study yet. We still have two more lectures in this series. And we're going to look at the characteristics of the twenty-four elders. And we're going to see that those characteristics apply to Adam before he sinned. Dan Saudara-saudara, jika kita membaca tulisan-tulisan Ellen White dengan hati yang terbuka, kita akan menerima berkat yang sangat besar. Ellen White tidak mengkontradiksi Firman Tuhan, misalnya ketika dia berkata bahwa tua-tua adalah malaikat-malaikat yang perkasa dan paling tinggi ~ maka dalam kelanjutan pelajaran kita, kalian akan kagum saat kita mempelajari hal-hal ini, bagaimana yang dikatakan Ellen White itu sama sekali selaras dengan Firman Tuhan.
